Nevada SNAP-Ed is an online resource center for State and local SNAP-Ed providers. For 50 years, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) has served as the foundation of America’s safety net.

SNAP is the nation’s first line of defense against hunger and a powerful tool to improve nutrition among low-income people. SNAP is effective in its mission to mitigate the effects of poverty on food insecurity. A USDA study found that participating in SNAP for 6 months is associated with a significant decrease in food insecurity.

It is central to SNAP’s efforts to improve nutrition and prevent or reduce diet-related chronic disease and obesity among SNAP recipients. SNAP-Ed is an important priority for the USDA/FNS, and the Agency appreciates the leadership demonstrated by States towards this mutual commitment to improve the health of low -income families.

“This program has created a sense of community through the annual Salsa Contest and the family garden activities. Families are actively engaged in the garden and have a feeling of pride that their children helped to grow the garden.  There is whole family involvement and a sharing of ‘family recipes.'”
